Dengue fever is a viral infection which is transmitted by mosquitoes. It is characterized by fever, a rash and muscle and joint pains. Dengue fever is caused by several related viruses. It is transmitted by the bite of mosquitoes, found in tropic and sub tropic regions.

Dengue fever begins with a sudden onset of a high fever, often reaching up to 104-105 degrees Fahrenheit, a headache and slightly later, the appearance of severe joint and muscle pains. A flat, red rash may appear over most of the body during the early part of the fever. A second rash, measles-like in appearance, develops later in the disease. Infected people may also have increased skin sensitivity and be very uncomfortable.

When you have a runny nose, itchy eyes are sneezing or coughing, you are said to have caught a cold. Mostly, people catch a cold during the winter because of the low atmospheric humidity during the winter season which enables cold causing viruses to develop more easily. The virus can enter your body either through your mouth or nose or sometimes through your hands. You are likely to catch a cold when you come into contact with an infected person.

For a common cold, you don’t really need to go to a doctor, but if the problem persists and you have a high fever, vomiting or severe headache then you must seek medical advice. The general medicines for a common cold are decongestants, nasal sprays or suppressants etc, but have you ever thought of the side effects that these medicines may have on you or your child’s body? Pain killers like Aspirin can affect your lungs. Decongestants may cause heart palpitations and insomnia and some over the counter cough syrups can be responsible for drowsiness.

Junk food is dangerous to your health. A high intake of junk food can lead to stomach disorders and can also affect the heart. There are now over 400,000 deaths per year caused by illnesses related to being overweight, which means that obesity has now overtaken smoking for the leading preventable cause of death.

Currently, youths and children are becoming more addicted to junk food and if this continues, one in every three children born will develop diabetes in their lifetime, which can cut 17-27 years off your life. A small intake of junk food doesn’t affect you much, but too much fast food can be connected to people having a higher chance of developing diabetes and other illnesses. There is, however, an argument that with proper exercise one can reduce the risk of all these illnesses.

The virus of AIDS attacks human white blood cells and thus weakens the immunity system. Since the AIDS virus reduces the natural immunity, patients become more prone to many other infections or diseases, in fact, most patients with AIDS die from what are known as secondary infections. Death occurs because the body cannot repel the pathogens of secondary infections since the natural defence mechanism has been destroyed by the AIDS Virus.
